One of the biggest question marks hanging over the Formula paddock is when Mercedes will find their potential. Can the dominant manufacturer of the last ten years figure out their porpoising problem and get the car working correctly?

The inaugural Grand Prix in Miami is their latest opportunity to prove their mettle and rescue a title campaign that looks to be doomed, four races into the season. Speaking on a video shared on Mercedes social media channels Andrew Shovlin, the team's head of trackside engineering, explained their working process at the moment:

"We know where we are at the moment," said Shovlin. "We know where we want to be and we are very focused on the engineering challenge that this is, and it is a very interesting engineering challenge. Porpoising is a new problem for us and there is an enormous amount of energy going into finding a solution. Day by day we are moving forward and we are learning more about it and hopefully, soon, maybe as soon as Miami, we can start to bring some parts to the car that will hopefully give us an indication on whether we are moving in the right direction."

Those upgrades could be critical for Mercedes and while they do not expect an immediate solution their plan is to "get a clue that we are going in the right direction; that we getting to the bottom of what is going on, then we will be quite pleased that we are just moving on the right path."

So far in 2022 they've not been on the right and seven times champion Lewis Hamilton has been left almost 60 points adrift of Charles Leclerc in the championship standings.
